GovPay Platform Generates Rs. 30 Million in Traffic Fine Payments in Two Months

October 22, 2025

Harsha Purasinghe, Chairman of the Task Force on Digital Affairs of the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, announced that the GovPay digital payment platform has generated nearly Rs. 30 million in revenue from traffic fines within just two months of its implementation in the Western Province and the Dambulla–Anuradhapura section.

The platform was officially launched in the Western Province in August 2025, following a successful pilot project conducted along the Kurunegala–Anuradhapura route.

According to Purasinghe, more than 20,000 transactions have been processed through the GovPay platform for the payment of traffic fines during this period.

The service was expanded to the Southern Province last Friday and is expected to be introduced in the Northern Province next.

Purasinghe added that the GovPay system will be rolled out nationwide and cover all provinces before the end of this year, making the payment of traffic fines more convenient, transparent, and efficient.
