With Election Day 2024 fast approaching, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are locked in an incredibly close race, as new polling shows.
A Wall Street Journal poll released Thursday puts Trump slightly ahead, with 47% of support among 1,500 registered voters to Harris’s 45%, within a 2.5% margin of error. This reflects a slight shift since August, when Harris led by the same margin. Meanwhile, a CNBC poll of 1,000 voters shows Trump at 48% to Harris’s 46%, also within the 3.1% margin of error and underscoring the economy as the top issue for voters.
However, the Tipp Tracking Poll has Harris leading 50% to Trump’s 47% among 1,260 likely voters, indicating a narrow but stable three-point lead as of Thursday. Meanwhile, Bloomberg’s recent swing state poll reveals a near tie, with Harris at 49.1% to Trump’s 48.5% among voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Despite variations across polls, the margins are within error, marking this race as a statistical tie. Analysts note that recent adjustments in polling methodology since 2016 and 2020 could influence accuracy and predictability in tight contests like this one.
