Harvard University has initiated a lawsuit against the Trump administration, alleging that its decision to freeze billions of dollars in federal grants is unlawful.
In a letter to the university community on Monday, President Alan M. Garber outlined that the $2 billion funding freeze would severely hinder critical disease research at the institution.
Last week, Harvard, the wealthiest university in the world, rejected a set of demands from the Trump administration, which were aimed at curbing diversity initiatives and addressing anti-Semitism on campus.
In response to the lawsuit, the White House remarked that the “gravy train of federal assistance” was coming to an end.
