The Ministry of Health has stated that trade unions have no authority to intervene in the ongoing recruitment process for post-intern medical officers.
Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Hansaka Wijayamuni, announced that applications are currently being accepted online for the recruitment of 1,402 medical officers to the primary level of the medical service, also known as post-intern appointments.
Dr. Wijayamuni stressed that the Government Medical Officers’ Association’s (GMOA) objection to the recruitment document is without merit.
Meanwhile, GMOA media spokesperson, Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, alleged that the Ministry has prepared the post-intern appointment list in violation of legal procedures.
He warned that if corrective action is not taken, the union will proceed with its planned strike from 8:00 a.m. on Monday.
