The Department of Meteorology has issued a warm weather advisory for residents of the Ampara, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, and Monaragala districts.
According to the department, the heat index—defined as the temperature felt on the human body due to a combination of humidity and air temperature—is expected to rise to the ‘Caution Level’ in several areas today and tomorrow.
“The Heat Index Forecast is calculated using relative humidity and maximum temperature. This reflects how the weather actually feels on the body,” the department explained in a statement.
Officials warned that prolonged exposure to the sun and outdoor activities may cause fatigue, and continued exertion could result in heat cramps.
Residents are advised to stay well-hydrated and to limit strenuous outdoor activities during this period.
