Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has proposed naming a major road in Hyderabad after U.S. President Donald Trump—a move seemingly intended to draw global attention ahead of the upcoming “Telangana Rising Global Summit”, a high-profile international event the state eagerly anticipates.
The prominent road running alongside the U.S. Consulate General is expected to be designated “Donald Trump Avenue”, which officials say would be a global first in honouring a sitting U.S. president outside the United States.
The state’s naming initiative expands beyond political leaders, extending to global business and technology icons who have played a key role in shaping Hyderabad’s rise as a major tech hub. Among the proposals is “Google Street”, recognising the tech giant’s strong presence and investment in the region.
Other globally inspired names under consideration include “Microsoft Road” and “Wipro Junction”.
The government has also approved naming the 100-metre Greenfield Radial Road—linking the Nehru Outer Ring Road at Raviryala to the planned Future City—after Padma Bhushan awardee Ratan Tata. The Raviryala interchange has already been titled the “Tata Interchange”.
Chief Minister Reddy stated that naming roads after globally influential individuals and major corporations serves a dual purpose: offering a meaningful tribute and inspiring commuters, while simultaneously elevating Hyderabad’s profile on the world stage.
However, Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar criticised the move, arguing that Hyderabad should be renamed “Bhagyanagar”.
“If the Congress government is so eager to change names, they might as well start with something that actually has history and meaning,” he posted on X.
He further accused Revanth Reddy of renaming places after “whoever trends”, asserting that the BJP is the only party actively confronting the government and raising real public issues through its MahaDharna campaign.
