If the United National Party and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya intend to unite, discussions should take place directly between the leaders of the two parties, Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sajith Premadasa, former UNP leader and MP Ravi Karunanayake has said.
In an interview aired on a television channel, Karunanayake stated that the involvement of intermediaries would only obstruct meaningful dialogue.
He said he believes the two parties should unite as soon as possible.
The MP also pointed out that two strong political parties had been divided due to wrongdoing by a small group of individuals.
As a result, he said, the UNP — which played a key role in securing the country’s freedom and taking responsibility for its development — faced severe consequences.
