Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake said that the agreement Sri Lanka reached with the International Monetary Fund is due to expire by the end of this year.
He noted that the government now faces a key decision on whether to re-enter the IMF process or to review existing issues and continue the programme in a manner that best suits the country’s needs.
Ravi Karunanayake pointed out that securing IMF assistance at a time when Sri Lanka is facing a severe natural disaster will largely depend on the government’s negotiating capacity.
He also said that every government must confront challenges in the course of governance, emphasizing that this is not a difficulty unique to the current administration.
