IMF Managing Director Visits Gampola to Assess Cyclone Ditwah Damage

February 17, 2026

Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), visited Gampola this morning to observe the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

Gampola is among the worst-affected areas following the cyclone. Georgieva and her delegation arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday afternoon.

Upon returning to Colombo, she is scheduled to hold discussions today with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe, and other senior officials.

The talks are expected to focus on extending IMF support for Sri Lanka’s post-disaster recovery and strengthening long-term resilience in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah.
