Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Ravi Karunanayake, says that although IMF assistance was necessary when Sri Lanka faced a severe financial crisis, some of the Fund’s actions have become problematic.
Speaking to the media, he questioned whether the IMF is genuinely helping Sri Lanka during difficult times or pushing the country deeper into its challenges.
Karunanayake further stated that the IMF has not provided any support to encourage new investments.
He noted that measures such as offering tax concessions to investors are now impossible under current IMF conditions.
The MP added that certain steps aimed at boosting investment are being obstructed by the IMF, creating additional barriers to economic recovery.
