The Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Security has announced that imported table salt will be sold at a wholesale price of Rs. 150 per kilogram in response to the prevailing shortage.
Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe confirmed that a shipment of 30,000 metric tons of salt is expected to arrive in the country by 10 June to address the supply gap.
The minister also stated that discussions are currently underway to explore mechanized methods for future salt production, aiming to reduce dependency on imports and ensure a stable local supply.
