India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has confirmed that heli-operations from INS Vikrant have commenced to support Sri Lanka’s ongoing search and rescue missions amid severe flooding across the island.

Two Indian Chetak helicopters from INS Vikrant took off earlier today with Sri Lanka Air Force personnel onboard to assist in locating individuals displaced by the widespread floods. The deployment marks a significant boost to relief operations as authorities continue to respond to the escalating emergency situation.

Announcing the development in a special post on X, Dr. Jaishankar stated: “Two Chetak Helicopters from IN_R11Vikrant took off for Search and Rescue Operations with Air Force personnel onboard.”

The coordinated operation underscores the strong cooperation between India and Sri Lanka during times of crisis, as both nations work together to expedite rescue and humanitarian efforts on the ground.
