September 17, 2025

Sri Lanka should follow India’s lead and strengthen bilateral cooperation, says former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake.

Speaking to the media, Karunanayake noted that Sri Lanka already has a trade agreement with India, and what is required now is to move forward in close partnership. He described this as the essence of true globalization.

Highlighting India’s rapid economic growth, he pointed out that it currently stands as the world’s fourth-largest economy and is soon expected to become the third-largest.

Karunanayake stressed that forging closer ties with India will bring significant benefits to Sri Lanka’s development process.
