The Indian Government has reportedly summoned Meta’s Head of Public Policy after a video posted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefly removed from Facebook.
The video was uploaded last week at the height of nationwide protests over alleged examination paper leaks.
In the video, Prime Minister Modi assured protesters that the government would introduce new legislation to impose stricter punishments on those responsible for examination paper leaks.
Addressing the nation, Modi said the issue had caused significant distress to millions of students and their families, adding that authorities had already arrested several suspects in connection with the incidents.
He also stated that government officials had prepared draft legislation providing for a fast-track judicial process and tougher penalties. According to the Prime Minister, the proposal was scheduled to be presented to the Cabinet before being introduced in Parliament during the upcoming session.
Meta later said the video had been removed in error and confirmed that it had since been restored to the platform.
