IndiGo Nears Full Recovery With 1,650 Daily Flights as Government Enforces Fare Caps and Faster Refunds

December 8, 2025

IndiGo is steadily restoring operations, with the airline announcing it is on track to operate over 1,650 flights today, up from 1,500 yesterday. It said 137 out of 138 destinations are now active, while on-time performance has risen sharply to 75%, compared to 30% the previous day.

The airline reiterated that it will offer a full waiver on cancellations and rescheduling for bookings through December 15. Refund processing and luggage reconciliation are being expedited, IndiGo said, adding, “We are working round the clock to resume normal service. Please bear with us.”

Officials said the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has taken “rapid and decisive” measures to address the disruption caused by IndiGo’s operational crisis and to ensure passengers do not suffer ongoing inconvenience. Air travel across the country is stabilising quickly as other domestic carriers continue to operate smoothly at full capacity, while IndiGo’s performance shows consistent improvement.

Airfare Regulation to Prevent Overcharging

In response to a temporary surge in ticket prices following widespread cancellations, MoCA imposed an immediate cap on airfares to ensure fairness and affordability. Since the order came into effect, fare levels on affected routes have come down to acceptable limits, officials confirmed. All airlines have been instructed to strictly adhere to the revised fare structure.

Refunds and Passenger Support

To safeguard passengers financially, the ministry directed IndiGo to complete all pending refunds by 8 p.m. today. The airline has so far processed INR 6.1 billion in refunds. No additional fees may be charged for rescheduling flights affected by cancellations. Dedicated support cells have been established to assist passengers and resolve refund or rebooking issues without delay.

Baggage Tracing and Delivery

MoCA has ordered IndiGo to trace and deliver all bags separated from passengers within 48 hours, with mandatory continuous communication. The airline has already delivered 3,000 pieces of baggage nationwide as of yesterday.

Airport Operations Back to Normal

Airport directors in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Goa have confirmed that terminal operations are running smoothly, with no crowding at check-in, security, or boarding points. On-ground support has been strengthened through enhanced monitoring and timely deployment of airport staff and CISF personnel.

Real-Time Monitoring and Control

MoCA’s 24×7 control room remains active as an integrated hub overseeing flight operations, airport conditions, and passenger support. Passenger calls are being promptly handled, and ministry teams are stationed on the ground to supervise operational planning, crew rostering, and service standards.

Reassurance to Travellers

The Ministry affirmed that passenger safety, convenience, and dignity remain its highest priorities. India’s aviation network is moving swiftly toward full normalcy, it said, adding that all corrective measures will remain in effect until operations completely stabilise. Continuous monitoring will ensure full protection of passenger rights and timely updates.
