The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board has introduced a new insurance scheme for fishermen involved in diving activities, in line with the government’s fisheries policy proposals.
According to the Board, a compensation of Rs. 1.2 million will be paid in the event of a fisherman’s death while engaged in diving related to fishing.
The scheme offers several coverage plans based on different premium levels. A fisherman can obtain one year of insurance coverage by paying a premium of Rs. 1,920.
An annual premium of Rs. 2,550 provides coverage of Rs. 1.5 million, while a premium of Rs. 3,600 offers coverage of Rs. 2 million.
The Board also stated that benefits will be provided in cases of permanent disability, temporary disability, or if a fisherman goes missing during such activities.
