The Department of Meteorology reports that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ)—the area where winds from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet—is currently influencing the island’s weather patterns.
As a result, showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the districts of Mannar, Galle, and Matara.
Elsewhere across the island, showers or thundershowers are likely to develop after 1.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is anticipated in parts of the Central, Uva, and North-central provinces, along with the Vavuniya district.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Additionally, misty conditions are expected in the morning in certain areas of the Central and Uva provinces and in the Ampara district.
