The Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka says the Intertropical Convergence Zone is currently influencing the island’s weather, with increased rainfall expected from tomorrow (06).
For today (05), showers or thundershowers are likely in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1:00 p.m.
Cloudy conditions will prevail over the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Ampara district, with some areas also experiencing morning showers.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, and Eastern provinces, and in the Galle, Matara, and Polonnaruwa districts.
The Department also noted that fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph may occur at times in the Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Hambantota district.
Misty conditions are expected during early morning hours in parts of the Central and Uva provinces and in the Ampara district.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimise damage from temporary localised strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
