Iranian National Caught at Katunayake Airport Attempting to Flee to Europe Using Fake British Passport

An Iranian national was apprehended at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport while attempting to travel to Europe using a forged British passport, airport authorities confirmed.

The suspect was intercepted by immigration officers during departure formalities after suspicions were raised over the authenticity of his travel documents. Upon further examination, it was revealed that the British passport in his possession was counterfeit.

Preliminary investigations suggest the individual intended to illegally enter a European country by impersonating a UK citizen.

He has since been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further questioning and legal action. Authorities are currently investigating the possibility of an organized human trafficking network linked to the incident.
