JICA Assures Continued Support for Sri Lanka’s Development

HARA Shohei, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has assured that JICA will continue its financial and technical assistance to Sri Lanka without interruption.

This assurance was made during a meeting held on January 7 at the Presidential Secretariat, where President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and HARA Shohei discussed ongoing projects and future collaborations.

Key points from the discussion included:

  • Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake: The development work at the airport, being carried out with Japanese aid, is progressing, and efforts are underway to expedite and complete all JICA-supported projects efficiently.
  • Future Support: JICA reaffirmed its commitment to extend financial support to Sri Lanka, as it did during the country’s debt restructuring process.
  • Upcoming Initiatives: JICA expressed interest in assisting Sri Lanka with the “Clean Sri Lanka” programme, as well as helping to reform the country’s transport system and improve urban cleanliness.

This cooperation is set to contribute significantly to Sri Lanka’s continued development in various sectors.
