Kandy Gears Up for Penultimate Randoli Procession Amid Heightened Security

August 26, 2026

The iconic Kandy Esala Maha Perahera reaches its final stretch tonight as the fourth Randoli Perahera takes to the streets, supported by a comprehensive security and traffic strategy deployed by the Sri Lanka Police.

Organized by the Sri Dalada Maligawa, the grand cultural festival kicked off its annual celebrations on August 18 and is set to conclude on August 28.

To ensure public safety and smooth travel for thousands of devotees and visitors, law enforcement authorities have established dedicated vehicle parking zones, tourist assistance desks, strategic roadblocks, and routine spot checks across the hill capital.

Scheduled to step off at 6:44 p.m. from the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, tonight’s procession will complete a 2.18-kilometer circuit. The route takes the pageant along Dalada Veediya, Yatinuwara Veediya, Cross Street, Kotugodella Veediya, Kande Veediya, D. S. Senanayake Veediya, and Raja Veediya before returning to the temple grounds.
