Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Ravi Karunanayake, has highlighted a stark difference between the current opposition and that of the past.
Speaking at a media briefing, MP Karunanayake said the present opposition is actively appealing to the international community to provide maximum support to Sri Lanka as it recovers from a catastrophic situation. He noted that special attention has been given to reviving the tourism industry.
“The current government did not take such initiatives when it was in opposition,” the MP observed.
He added that the immediate priority is to attract more tourists and encourage increased spending in U.S. dollars, which is vital for the country’s economic recovery.
