Labour Minister Anil Jayantha has vowed to channel Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF) investments into more productive ventures, ensuring greater benefits for the working population.
Speaking during the committee stage debate on the budget in Parliament today, the minister criticized past mismanagement of these funds, stating that new legislation will be introduced to maximize returns for workers.
He also announced plans to digitalize EPF and ETF operations in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Technology Development, enabling online access to these services.
Additionally, Jayantha pledged to introduce reforms aimed at eliminating industrial disputes and aligning Sri Lanka’s labour laws with global trends. While advocating modernization, he assured that employees would have a stronger voice in organizational decision-making.
