Landslide Warnings Issued in Seven Districts as Heavy Rainfall Continues

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued early landslide warnings for several areas across seven districts as persistent rainfall continues to affect parts of the island.

The Level 1 (Yellow) landslide warning will remain in effect until 8:00 a.m. tomorrow (June 16) and covers the following Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSDs) and surrounding areas:

  • Colombo District: Padukka

  • Galle District: Elpitiya

  • Kalutara District: Walallawita, Matugama, Bulathsinhala, Palindanuwara, and Agalawatta

  • Kandy District: Ganga Ihala Korale

  • Nuwara Eliya District: Ambagamuwa

  • Kegalle District: Deraniyagala, Dehiowita, and Yatiyanthota

  • Ratnapura District: Eheliyagoda, Kalawana, Pelmadulla, Nivithigala, Kuruwita, and Elapatha

In an updated advisory, the NBRO has also issued a Level 2 (Amber) warning for the Ratnapura and Ayagama Divisional Secretariat areas in the Ratnapura District, indicating a higher risk of landslides.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant, avoid risky slopes, and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
