Football superstar Lionel Messi unveiled a 70-foot statue of himself at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday as part of his visit to India.
The unveiling ceremony, held this morning, was attended by West Bengal Minister Sujit Bose and Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. Messi is expected to remain with Shah Rukh Khan until the official ceremony at the Yuva Bharati (Salt Lake) Stadium begins.
Messi, who led Argentina to victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, is scheduled to participate in several events in Kolkata before departing for Hyderabad later this afternoon. His visit to India will span three days.
Large crowds of fans gathered at multiple locations in Kolkata to catch a glimpse of the football icon, who arrived in India from Miami.
During his stay, Messi is also scheduled to attend a series of high-profile engagements, including meetings with former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Following his engagements in Kolkata, Messi is set to visit Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi as part of his India tour.
