Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath announced that the Local Government Elections are expected to be held early next year.
Speaking to the media in Kandy today (November 23), the minister stated that the government will take the necessary steps to conduct the elections in compliance with the Supreme Court’s decision.
Minister Herath noted that some of the candidates nominated two years ago have either passed away or left the country, prompting discussions with other political parties about the possibility of calling for fresh nominations.
He emphasized that while the elections are planned for early next year, the exact date has not yet been finalized.
