Low-Pressure System Near Sri Lanka Gradually Weakening, Says Met Department

The Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka says the low-pressure area located north of Sri Lanka is gradually weakening.

However, due to the continuing influence of the system, showers or thundershowers are expected at times, along with cloudy skies, in:

  • Western Province
  • Sabaragamuwa Province
  • Central Province
  • North-Western Province
  • Northern Province
  • Galle District
  • Matara District

According to the Department, several spells of showers are also expected in Anuradhapura District.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in:

  • Uva Province
  • Eastern Province
  • Polonnaruwa District

after 1:00 p.m.

The public has been advised to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
