The Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka says the low-pressure area located northeast of Sri Lanka continues to persist in sea areas near the island.
According to the Department, the influence of this weather system is expected to maintain the prevailing rainy conditions across the country over the next few days.
Showers or thundershowers are forecast at times in most parts of the island, while generally cloudy skies are also expected.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-Western, and Northern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee District.
The public has been advised to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
