A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Myanmar earlier today (April 13), according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
The quake occurred at a depth of 35 km (21.75 miles). Myanmar’s Meteorological Department reported that the epicentre was located approximately 271 km northwest of Mae Hong Son province in Thailand.
Tremors were reportedly felt by residents in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, prompting brief alarm but no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that a total of 468 aftershocks have been recorded in Myanmar and surrounding areas since the major earthquake that struck on March 28.
