Maithree Wickremesinghe Summoned to FCID as Court Grants Bail to Former Presidential Secretary

February 18, 2026

Maithree Wickremesinghe, the wife of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has been summoned to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) on February 20.

This was disclosed by the Criminal Investigation Department Sri Lanka (CID) when a case concerning the alleged misappropriation of public funds involving the former President was taken up before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today.

The CID said Maithree Wickremesinghe has been summoned to record a statement as part of the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, former Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake was granted bail by Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara. The court ordered his release on two surety bails of Rs. 2 million each, following a bail application made by President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa.

Saman Ekanayake had been arrested and remanded in connection with the same case.

The matter stems from a complaint alleging that more than Rs. 16.2 million in public funds were misappropriated to finance a private overseas trip in 2023 to attend Maithree Wickremesinghe’s graduation ceremony in the United Kingdom.
