Large-scale renovations of the Parliament of Sri Lanka have commenced, the Parliamentary Communications Department announced.
Approved by the Cabinet and carried out under the instructions of Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, these works mark the first major overhaul of the Parliamentary Complex in more than 42 years.
Current work includes removing the soil layer from the concrete roof terrace for repairs, as well as renovating roof gutters, the copper door, the Parliament Medical Center, washrooms, and Members’ Dressing Room.
While minor maintenance in the past was handled by the Engineering Department, this large-scale renovation is being undertaken with the labour support of the Sri Lanka Army.
