Malaysia Steps Up Campaign to Attract Sri Lankan Travellers

July 22, 2026

Tourism Malaysia is promoting improved connectivity, family travel, halal services and new industry partnerships ahead of its 2026 visitor campaign.

Malaysia is expanding its tourism promotion in Sri Lanka as it prepares for the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

At an industry presentation in Colombo, Malaysian High Commissioner Badli Hisham Adam described Sri Lanka as an important source market and encouraged travel companies in both countries to develop new leisure, business and event packages.

The campaign is highlighting Malaysia’s cities, heritage sites, beaches, rainforests, shopping, medical tourism and family attractions. Officials are also promoting the country’s halal-certified services and prayer facilities to travellers seeking Muslim-friendly destinations.

Stronger tourism links could benefit airlines, tour operators and hospitality companies in both markets. Their impact will depend on airfare levels, flight schedules, visa arrangements and the ability of operators to offer packages that remain competitive with other Asian destinations.

Sri Lankan travellers should compare final prices, cancellation conditions and seasonal weather before booking. Medical or education-related travel should also be arranged through properly accredited providers.

The Colombo event brought together Malaysian tourism businesses, airlines and Sri Lankan industry representatives. Organisers hope the networking will lead to new commercial partnerships before the 2026 campaign reaches its main promotional period.
