The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory indicating that several provinces across the island are likely to experience significant rainfall and strong winds today.
According to the advisory, intermittent showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and North-Western provinces. Notably, heavy rainfall exceeding 100mm is anticipated in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle, Matara, and Puttalam districts.
The Northern Province and Anuradhapura District are also forecast to experience occasional showers.
In addition, strong winds ranging from 50 to 60 km/h are expected over the western slopes of the central hills and across the Northern, North-Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, and Southern provinces, including the Trincomalee District.
The Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions to mitigate potential damages caused by localized strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
