The UK’s domestic security service, MI5, has issued a warning to British lawmakers about new Chinese-sponsored espionage activities, raising concerns about potential spying around Parliament.
MI5 reportedly identified two online accounts allegedly linked to Chinese intelligence spy groups. These accounts were recruiting through a company called BP-YR Executive Search and Internship Association.
The security service informed MPs that such cover stories are often used to contact British politicians and officials via professional networking platforms like LinkedIn. Jobs are frequently presented as freelance consultancy roles.
According to foreign media reports, the warning suggests that China may be attempting to recruit MPs through “headhunters” operating as disguised spies.
