The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government has instructed local government institutions to accelerate the implementation of development projects without further delay.
Deputy Minister Ruwan Senarath stated that Rs. 23 billion was allocated in the previous national budget for the development activities of local government bodies, while an additional Rs. 53 billion was allocated for development work under provincial councils.
He emphasized that all allocated funds must be utilized before November this year, stressing the importance of timely execution.
The Deputy Minister further noted that delays in establishing administrative authority in some local government institutions have significantly hindered progress. He cautioned that if such delays persist, the unutilized funds may have to be returned to the Treasury.
