Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara, says necessary arrangements are in place to assist Sri Lankans working in Israel who may wish to leave the country at any time due to the ongoing conflict.
Ambassador Bandara said the Sri Lankan Embassy in Tel Aviv has issued certified letters to nationals planning to return home via Egypt. On Wednesday (19), four individuals were successfully facilitated to cross the border and travel back to Sri Lanka after coordination with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Cairo.
Despite June 20 and 21 being public holidays in Israel, the Sri Lankan Embassy will remain open to provide support, the ambassador confirmed.
He noted that more Sri Lankans are expected to leave Israel in the coming days, as the situation remains volatile. Those requiring documentation for clearance are advised to visit the Embassy in person with their valid passports and Israeli visas.
Ambassador Bandara added that Sri Lankans holding valid Israeli visas will be eligible for a 96-hour transit visa through Egypt, subject to a fee of USD 50.
