Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa has urged government MPs to resign if they fail to provide evidence of their educational qualifications, following the resignation of Speaker Ashoka Ranwala over similar allegations.
In a statement on X, Rajapaksa praised Ranwala’s decision to step down, calling it a commendable move in the interest of transparency. He commended Ranwala for prioritizing accountability in the face of questions surrounding his credentials.
Rajapaksa, however, criticized other government MPs, particularly those from the National People’s Power (NPP), for not addressing allegations that they misled the public regarding their qualifications.
He emphasized, “This goes against the very vision of President Anura Kumara to maintain a clean and transparent Parliament,” adding, “If the NPP is serious about upholding its pledge for accountability, these MPs should step down immediately.”
