President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that a nation can progress only when its people face challenges head-on and fulfil their responsibilities without hesitation.
The President made these remarks today while attending the 100th Commissioning and Passing-Out Parade of the Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa as the Chief Guest.
Upon his arrival at the Academy this morning, President Dissanayake was accorded a military Guard of Honour. After inspecting the parade, he presented the Gallantry Flag to the most outstanding cadet team.
In his address, the President praised the selfless service of the Sri Lanka Army, highlighting its sacrifices in safeguarding the nation, particularly during recent cyclones. He noted that whenever the country or its people face difficulties, the Sri Lanka Army steps forward as the nation’s primary guardians and protectors.
Emphasising the wider responsibilities of citizens, leaders, and institutions, President Dissanayake urged all to act with integrity, unity, and dedication.
“We can only move forward when the people of the nation face challenges head-on and fulfil their responsibilities without any hesitation,” he said.
A total of 240 cadets were commissioned into the Sri Lanka Armed Forces during the parade after successfully completing Regular Officer Courses, Short-Term Courses, Regular Training, and Voluntary Women Cadet Officer Programmes. Among them were eight foreign cadets, underscoring the international significance of the event.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Sampath Thuyacontha, the Commanders of the Tri-Forces, the Inspector General of Police, and family members of the newly commissioned officers.
