National Poson Week officially begins today (June 7) and will continue until June 13, with the National Poson Festival taking place across the sacred cities of Anuradhapura, Mihintale, and Thanthirimale.
Anuradhapura District Secretary K.P. Ranjith Wimalasooriya announced that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the convenience and safety of the thousands of devotees expected to visit these religious sites during the Poson season.
In a noteworthy initiative, a special mobile app has been developed to support pilgrims during the festival. According to the District Secretary, the app is designed to ease traffic congestion and offer a range of services to devotees.
The app will provide real-time information on:
-
Parking facilities
-
Locations of ‘dansals’ (almsgiving centers)
-
First aid stations
-
Road congestion hotspots
The authorities believe this tech-driven approach will enhance the overall experience of Poson pilgrims and help manage the large crowds expected in Anuradhapura, the spiritual heart of Sri Lanka’s Poson celebrations.
