The National QR Payment Adoption Programme has been officially launched under the patronage of the President, marking a major step towards transforming Sri Lanka into a cash-lite economy.
The initiative aims to reduce the use of physical currency while encouraging widespread adoption of QR-based digital payments, offering a simple and convenient way for the public to carry out transactions using mobile devices.
Authorities say the programme is expected to enhance efficiency, security, and accessibility in everyday financial transactions across the country.
How to Use LankaQR for Payments
To make a payment using LankaQR, users must first ensure they have an active internet connection on their mobile device.
They can then open their bank or digital wallet application and select the “Scan QR” or “Scan & Pay” option.
Next, users should scan the QR code displayed at the payment point or on a bill.
Once scanned, the payment amount should be confirmed. In some cases, the amount will be automatically populated; otherwise, it must be entered manually.
Before proceeding, users are advised to carefully verify all details. After confirming the payment, a digital receipt will be generated, which should be saved for reference.
Officials note that this programme is part of broader efforts to modernize Sri Lanka’s financial ecosystem and promote safer, faster, and more convenient payment methods nationwide.
