The National Building Research Organisation has issued Level 2 (Amber) and Level 1 (Yellow) landslide warnings for multiple areas across Sri Lanka due to continuing heavy rainfall.
According to the NBRO, the warnings are valid from 4:00 p.m. today (14) until 4:00 p.m. tomorrow (15).
Level 2 – Amber Warning (Alert)
Residents in the following areas have been advised to remain highly alert and be prepared to move to safer locations if necessary:
- Neluwa in Galle District
- Agalawatta, Baduraliya, Matugama, Horana, and Walallawita in Kalutara District
- Alawwa in Kurunegala District
- Pelmadulla and Ratnapura in Ratnapura District
Level 1 – Yellow Warning (Watch)
The NBRO has also advised residents in several other areas to remain watchful for possible landslide risks, including parts of:
- Badulla District
- Colombo District
- Kandy District
- Kegalle District
- Matale District
- Matara District
- Monaragala District
- Nuwara Eliya District
- Ratnapura District
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert for warning signs such as ground cracks, leaning trees, collapsing retaining walls, and unusual water flows, and to follow evacuation instructions issued by disaster management officials if conditions worsen.
