The National Building Research Organisation has issued Level 3 (Red) landslide early warnings for several areas in Sri Lanka due to continuing heavy rainfall.
The warnings, issued at 6:00 a.m. today (22), will remain in effect until 6:00 p.m. tomorrow (23).
Level 3 – Evacuate (Red Warning)
Residents in the following areas have been advised to evacuate or move to safer locations if conditions worsen:
- Dehiowita Divisional Secretariat Division in Kegalle District
- Ratnapura Divisional Secretariat Division in Ratnapura District
Level 2 – Be Alert (Amber Warning)
Amber warnings have been issued for:
- Seethawaka
- Padukka
- Attanagalla
- Ingiriya
- Bulathsinhala
- Ruwanwella
- Pelmadulla
- Kuruwita
- Ayagama
Level 1 – Remain Vigilant (Yellow Warning)
Yellow warnings have been issued for:
- Yatiyantota
- Ambagamuwa
- Eheliyagoda
- Nivitigala
- Kalawana
The NBRO has warned that all mountainous areas, cut slopes, and roads in affected regions remain vulnerable to landslides.
Residents are advised to remain alert for warning signs such as:
- Ground cracks
- Land subsidence
- Tilting trees or utility poles
- Cracks in walls and floors
- Sudden muddy water flows or disappearing springs
Authorities have urged people in high-risk areas to follow official evacuation instructions and move to safer locations immediately if heavy rainfall continues.
