Around 30% of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka this year have been recorded among children under the age of 19, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
Community Health Specialist Dr. Prasheela Samaraweera said the remaining dengue patients are primarily between the ages of 20 and 65.
She also noted that the highest number of dengue-related deaths has been reported among individuals aged over 65, highlighting the increased risk of severe illness among older adults.
Meanwhile, the NDCU stated that dengue transmission remains high in 12 districts across the country.
According to the latest figures, a total of 78,125 dengue cases have been reported so far this year, with the Gampaha District recording the highest number of infections at 16,798 cases.
