The Government of Nepal on Sunday announced a financial assistance package of 200,000 U.S. dollars to support Sri Lanka’s relief and recovery efforts following the devastating floods caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
In recent days, heavy rainfall and widespread flooding triggered by the cyclone have resulted in the deaths of at least 334 people, while 370 individuals remain missing, according to Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Centre (DMC). The country is currently grappling with one of the worst weather-related disasters it has faced in years.
In its official statement, Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its “profound sorrow and deepest sympathies” to the government and people of Sri Lanka over the tragic loss of life and extensive destruction.
“In the spirit of close bilateral relations, Nepal stands firmly with Sri Lanka in this difficult time,” the statement said, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a swift recovery for the injured.
