Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli Resigns Amid Deadly Protests

September 9, 2025

Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has resigned following days of violent anti-corruption protests that left 19 people dead.

The unrest, led largely by young demonstrators, escalated after the government imposed a sweeping ban on social media platforms. Although the ban was lifted late Monday, protests intensified as police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse crowds attempting to storm parliament.

Despite an indefinite curfew in Kathmandu, protesters continued to clash with security forces on Tuesday.

“The PM has quit,” Oli’s aide Prakash Silwal confirmed to Reuters.
