The Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development has launched a national initiative to enhance the productivity of small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) across Sri Lanka, focusing on innovation, technological advancement, and improved market access.
According to the Ministry, Vidatha Resource Centers will serve as key platforms for transferring advanced technological knowledge to entrepreneurs, enabling them to upgrade their production capabilities and compete more effectively in local and international markets.
The program targets several priority areas, including technology transfer, market accessibility, and compliance with national production standards. In a bid to ensure technical soundness and adherence to quality benchmarks, the initiative will be implemented in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Standards Institution and the Industrial Technology Institute.
Authorities highlighted that empowering local entrepreneurs through infrastructure development and innovation is essential to strengthening the national economy and generating employment opportunities, particularly at the grassroots level.
The Ministry underscored that this effort is part of a broader strategy to position SMEs as a driving force behind Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and long-term growth.
