The Secretary-General of Parliament, Kushani Rohanadeera, affirmed that there will be no changes to the privileges provided to Members of Parliament (MPs).
Speaking to the media, she disclosed that 35 MPs have already requested official residences at the Madiwela Housing Complex. To accommodate this, 25–30 houses previously returned by former MPs are undergoing renovations and will be allocated to new MPs based on priority.
Of the 108 official residences available, 80 are designated for ruling party MPs, while 28 are reserved for opposition members. MPs residing more than 40 kilometers from the Parliament complex are eligible to apply for these accommodations.
The first parliamentary week of the tenth Parliament’s first session is scheduled to commence on December 3.
