Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, affirmed that the new government has no intention of imposing restrictions on the media.
Speaking during a discussion with representatives of the Sri Lanka Broadcasters’ Guild at the Ministry of Mass Media, the Minister emphasized the importance of mutual understanding between the media and the government.
The meeting served as a platform for the Guild to present their views and proposals, while also addressing their concerns about existing legal shortcomings affecting the media industry.
Dr. Jayatissa assured the attendees that the government is committed to responsibly managing media operations for the public’s benefit and pledged to create an environment that upholds media freedom. He highlighted the Ministry’s renewed focus on becoming an active and effective institution under the current administration.
The Broadcasters’ Guild requested the Minister to take steps to ensure a free and independent operating environment for the media, safeguarding their freedom and independence.
