More than 1,000 calls have been received from individuals expressing willingness to adopt a two-day-old baby girl who was found abandoned beneath a tree in a paddy field in Paragahadeniya, Mawatagama, according to police.
Police further revealed that a significant number of calls came from Sri Lankans living abroad, including in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Italy.
All those who inquired about adopting the infant were informed of the legal procedures required to initiate the adoption process.
Authorities have not yet identified the child’s mother, and investigations are ongoing to locate her.
