The Disaster Management Centre Sri Lanka says more than 31,000 people have been affected by the prevailing adverse weather conditions across Sri Lanka.
According to the latest report issued by the DMC, a total of 31,072 individuals from 7,983 families have been impacted by the ongoing heavy rains and related disaster situations.
The highest number of affected persons has been reported from Gampaha District, where:
- 15,313 individuals from 3,950 families have been affected
- One death has also been reported
Other affected districts include:
- Puttalam District — 4,265 people from 1,219 families
- Colombo District — 4,566 people from 1,571 families
- Ratnapura District — 4,558 people from 1,204 families
- Kalutara District — 73 people from 15 families
- Trincomalee District — 80 people from 20 families
- Galle District — 7 people from 3 families
- Vavuniya District — 3 people from 1 family
The DMC further stated that:
- Two houses have been completely destroyed
- 859 houses have suffered partial damage due to floods, heavy rain, and related weather impacts
Authorities continue to urge residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions issued by disaster management and weather officials.
